2022 World Cup Odds: Team USA Fall After Poor Performances Against Japan & Saudi Arabia

Team USA looks to be in some poor form with just 55 days until the World Cup. Their betting odds are now starting to reflect their current standing.

While the U.S. soccer team was able to qualify for this year’s World Cup after coming up short in 2018, the American fans are far from satisfied with the current level of play of their squad.

Team USA faltered in a club friendly against Japan earlier this week, losing 2-0. Tuesday was supposed to give the Americans a chance to build up some confidence in their last showing against Saudi Arabia.

Not only did the U.S. fail to instill any confidence in their fans, but they were unable to score one goal against a much less talented Saudi team, and the game ended in a scoreless draw.

Now, the United States ranks near the bottom of the list of countries in terms of betting odds to win the World Cup in 2022.

Check out the full World Cup odds below:

The U.S. team was never expected to win the World Cup, but perhaps the most telling odds come from where they’re listed in the group stage.

Team USA World Cup Group Stage Betting Odds

Per DraftKings, the USA are an even +100 to advance through Group B in the group consisting of England (-1300 to advance), Wales (+100 to advance) and Iran (+350 to advance). They are -150 to be eliminated in the group stage and +500 to win Group B.

In other words, oddsmakers are not expecting much from Gregg Berhalter’s team when the World Cup rolls around in November.

“I think it was a poor performance from us. We got our butts kicked and we’re not proud of it,” Berhalter said Monday in Murcia, Spain, ahead of the last exhibition. “We think we should have played much better, we could have played much better, and we didn’t. So we want to play better in this game. But I think it starts with the collective, us playing together more cohesive. And if we can do that, we’ll be fine.”

The Americans now have two months to get right before they face off against Wales in their first game of the World Cup on November 21.
