‘Mattress Mack’ Nets Historic $75 Million Pay Day Betting on Astros to Win the World Series

It’s doubtful that anyone was more ecstatic about the Houston Astros winning the World Series on Saturday night than Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale. After placing a series of bets on the Astros to win the championship throughout the season, ‘Mattress Mack’ was paid out $75 Million following their 4-1 series-clinching win in Game 6. The payout is believed to be a record return.

The Texas furniture store owner has become a household name in recent years due to his public promotions centered around placing ridiculously high wagers on Texas sports teams. This year, many of those bets have been on the Astros. ‘Mattress Mack’ began the betting flurry by placing a $3 Million bet on the Astros using the Caesars Sportsbook app.

“What can we say? We just wrote the biggest check in sports betting history to Mattress Mack for $30,000,000,” Ken Fuchs, chief operating officer for Caesars Digital, said in a company release Saturday night.

The $3 Million bet with Caesars was ‘Mattress Mack’s’ largest wager, but he also tacked on around $7 Million in other bets at favorable odds throughout the season.

Mack Earns Even More with Business Plan

McInvale mitigates his risk by using promotions at his Gallery Furniture store. He has placed heavy wagers on the Super Bowl and Final Four, but he’s mostly known for how he bets the Astros.

This time, ‘Mattress Mack’ offered any customer who spent at least $3,000 at his store the chance to double their money back if the Astros won the World Series. So even though he won’t necessarily be netting the entire $75 Million, he’s still ecstatic about how everything worked out.

“Oh, it’s definitely a win-win,” McIngvale told ESPN in a recent profile. “These promotions just bring the brand to life and give us a ton of brand equity that we wouldn’t have otherwise. The customers love it, so they’re totally engaged and talk about it for years. Because it runs all season long, it probably ups the number of people following the Astros, too, because now they have a real vested interest in the team.”

‘Mattress Mack’ was honored by the Astros on Saturday night by getting the opportunity to throw out the first pitch, and now he’ll be a hero in the Houston area for the rest of his life.
