Updated 2022 NL East Betting Odds: Mets Still Favorites to Win Division After Braves Force Tie This Week

Although most divisions in the MLB are locked up with the season coming to a close, the NL East division is headed for a photo finish.

On Tuesday night, the Atlanta Braves were able to force themselves into a dead lock with the New York Mets for first place in the division after defeating the Washington Nationals 8-0.

Still, though, the Mets are the betting favorite to win the division.

National League East Division Champion Odds

Per DraftKings, the Mets are a -170 favorite to win the NL East, with the Braves coming in as a +140 underdog to steal it from their grasp. Both the Miami Marlins and Nationals have already been mathematically eliminated from postseason contention.

What the division will likely come down to is a three-game series between the Braves and Mets that begins this Friday in Atlanta.

“The hope is to win tomorrow, and then the hope is to have a good series against New York this weekend,” Braves star Ronald Acuna said through a translator. “It feels like the division is on the line there.”

The Braves began their series with the Nationals trailing the Mets by 1.5 games in the division, but thanks to New York losing to the lowly Marlins on Tuesday night, they now find themselves with a real chance to win the division, thus avoiding a wild card series in October.

“It’s almost like I can feel October right around the corner,” said Eddie Rosario, the reigning NLCS MVP who contributed a key two-run double to Tuesday’s win. “The playoffs are coming, and everything changes. We are focused on winning, and we know the series coming up is the one we’ll keep an eye on.”

The Braves have showcased their pedigree in the past, propelling themselves to a World Series Championship in 2021 despite being counted out going into the All-Star Break.

They’ll need every ounce of that pedigree this weekend, when they’re set to take on Mets aces Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom over the three-game set.

Regardless of how it shakes out in the NL East, this weekend should be a lot of fun, and give MLB fans a taste of what’s to come in the postseason.
