Ohio State National Championship Odds: Buckeyes Now Favorites Over Georgia & Alabama Following Dominant Week 5

After five weeks of the college football season, a new favorite has emerged to win the National Championship: the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes continued their dominant start to the year with a convincing 49-10 win over the Rutgers Scarlett Knights on Saturday afternoon. Ohio State now finds themselves as the betting favorite to win the National Championship as Georgia struggled to come out with a win over Missouri.

Georgia was the consensus betting favorite to repeat as National champions entering Week 5, but they stumbled a bit against a tough Missouri team.

While the Bulldogs were able to squeak out a 26-22 win against their SEC foe, the Buckeyes have emerged as a clear favorite to not only win the Big Ten, but come into the College Football Playoff as the favorites to win it all. At the same time, quarterback CJ Stroud has emerged as the clear favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

The Buckeyes did not even need Stroud to do much on Saturday. In the win over Rutgers, Stroud leaned on his running game, throwing for just 154 yards and two touchdowns.

“I think that we just want to win,” he said to ESPN after the win. “ If that means I don't throw for a lot of yards, I don't throw for a lot of touchdowns, I can't really care less. I'm here to win.”

For oddsmakers, Ohio State proving they can dominate in more ways than one has catapulted them into the top spot among National Championship favorites. However, between Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State, it's hard to really pick a clear favorite right now.

The Buckeyes will once again be heavy favorites next weekend when they go on the road to take on a struggling Michigan State team in East Lansing.
