Justin Herbert Injury News: Chargers Quarterback Appears Set to Play Week 3 Despite Painful Ribs Injury

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is proving to be one of the tougher players in the entire NFL.

On Thursday Night Football against the Chiefs, Herbert gutted through a fracture to his rib cartilage for a good portion of the second half. And it appears as though he’s going to be given the opportunity to start against the Houston Texans this upcoming Sunday.

Per NFL Network’s Bridget Condon, Herbert was already throwing in practice on Wednesday and looked like his “normal self.”

“You’re not going to see a quarterback at any level of football play tougher and do more for their team and will their team to give them a chance more than him,” Chargers head coach Brandon Staley said after the Chiefs loss.

If Herbert is able to suit up this Sunday, he’ll rank among the top fantasy football options against the Texans.

Justin Herbert Week 3 Fantasy Football Rankings

Per Stokastic’s NFL Start/Sit Fantasy Football Rankings, Herbert is the fifth quarterback on the board for Week 3 if he is able to suit up.

Ahead of Herbert are Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, respectively.

“It’s just going to come down to comfort,” Staley said about Herbert’s ability to return. “It’s such a rotational position, just going to have to make sure that he’s comfortable, and we’re not going to know more about how he feels until later on in the week.

So far on the season, Herbert has 613 yards with six touchdowns and just one interception for the 1-1 Chargers.
