The Sunday afternoon matchup is a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship, when Joe Burrow and the Bengals were able to pull off the upset at Kansas City. In that game, the Bengals defense limited Patrick Mahomes and the high-powered Chiefs offense to 24 points, winning 27-24 on a field goal by Evan McPherson in OT.

The Chiefs were leading 21-3 at halftime, but thanks to some second-half adjustments the Bengals were able to fluster Mahomes.

“Once the season ended and I wasn’t in the Super Bowl and I had to watch it from the couch in my house in Texas, I kind of just moved on knowing that you’ve got to keep getting better, keep kind of moving forward,” Mahomes said via USA Today. “And if you want to have success that next season, you can’t dwell on what happened the last season, you have to learn from it and just get better from it.”

Mahomes will put his words to the test Sunday with hopes of showing these Chiefs have improved since their playoff exit last year.
