Colts-Vikings Recap: Fans and Bettors Treated to Overtime Thriller

Everyone expected that the Indianapolis Colts and Minnesota Vikings would be the highest scoring game of Saturday’s NFL slate. Nobody expected the game to be one of the greatest thrillers of the season. After trailing 33-0 at half time, the Vikings came back to defeat the Colts 39-36 in overtime on a Greg Joseph field goal. The comeback is the largest in NFL history. The Bills previously owned the record with a 32-point comeback versus the Houston Oilers in the 1993 playoffs. This Colts-Vikings recap is one of the strangest games in NFL history, and proof that one should never give up on their bets!

Colts-Vikings Recap: Biggest Comeback in NFL History Shocks Betting World

There was no shortage of drama throughout the game, leaving bettors on the edge of their seat in the second half regardless of which side they were on. The Vikings entered this game as moneyline and giving up 3.5 points against the spread. At halftime, their live odds were as high as 90-1 to win the game at some Sportsbooks. By the end of the first half they not only had an opportunity to win outright, but even to cover the 3.5 point handicap. It’s also worth noting that the Minnesota Vikings were +4000 (ML) at halftime.

The game got off to an ominous start for the Colts when Jonathan Taylor came off the field with an injury. Taylor was ruled out of the game with an ankle issue soon after. Nevertheless, things turned around for the Colts on the back of their special teams and defense.

After stopping the Vikings on their first possession, the Colts blocked a punt and returned it for the first touchdown of the game. The Colts then recovered a Dalvin Cook fumble and quickly punched in another score. Indy’s defense capped off a strong first half by a pick-6 in the second quarter that put them out to a 30-0 lead, as the Vikings appeared to be done for the day.

Fortunately for Minnesota backers and fans, the Vikings didn’t get the message. The team responded in the second half on both sides of the ball, roaring back to tie the game. They had a scare when Justin Jefferson came out with an injury of his own, but the superstar 2nd-year receiver quickly returned to the action.

Behind an incredible 2nd half from Jefferson and his teammate K.J. Osborn, who both had over 100-yards receiving, Cousins put up incredible numbers. The Quarterback threw for 460 yards and four touchdowns in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

The Vikings have been no stranger to overtime miracles. They defeated the Bills in Week 11, also in overtime, after recovering a Josh Allen fumble in the endzone at the end of regulation. It remains to be seen what else is in store for the Vikings this season, but bettors may be weary of fading the team that seems to find ways to win despite all odds.
