Colts vs. Titans Betting Odds & Prediction: Indianapolis Gets on the Right Track, Covers in Week 4 (October 2)

Both the Titans and Colts pulled off much-needed wins in Week 3, setting up what has the potential to be an important divisional game early in the season. Let’s discuss both sides of the ball for each team and how this game might play out.

Colts Offense vs. Titans Defense

Points have been difficult to come by for the Colts. The Jaguars shut them out in Week 2, and Indianapolis only scored 20 points each in Weeks 1 and 3. They didn’t exactly play a bunch of defensive juggernauts either, in the Texans and Chiefs. The biggest problem has been new quarterback Matt Ryan, who has four interceptions and just three touchdown passes.

Despite being smoked by the Bills in Week 2, the Titans defense hasn’t been all that bad. They limited the Giants to 21 points in Week 1, while the Raiders produced just 22 points against them in Week 2. Their biggest weakness has been stopping the running game, leaving them to allow the fourth-most yards rushing per game. That could be a problem against Jonathan Taylor, who had 10 games with at least 100 yards rushing last season. The NFL Player Props Tool projects Taylor to rush for 91.2 yards in this matchup.

Titans Offense vs. Colts Defense

The Titans offense is only going to go as far as Derrick Henry can carry them. It’s not a surprise that their first win of the season came in Henry’s best performance. He still hasn’t surpassed 100 yards rushing in a game, but he had 85 yards rushing, one touchdown, five receptions and 58 yards receiving last week against the Raiders. The Titans’ top two wide receivers are Robert Woods and unproven rookie Treylon Burks, and they have an average quarterback in Ryan Tannehill, which will cap their overall scoring upside. The NFL Player Props Tool projects Tannehill to only throw for 219.5 yards.

As bad as their offense has been, the Colts defense has held their own, limiting all three of their opponents to under 25 points. Their best performance was when they held Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to 17 points last week. What’s even more impressive is that they played well without star linebacker Shaquille Leonard (back), who has yet to make his season debut.

Colts vs. Titans Pick

On their way to earning the top seed in the AFC last year, the Titans won both games against the Colts. They handled them 25-16 at home but pulled out a narrow 34-31 overtime victory against the Colts in Indianapolis. The Titans were 7-2 at home last season but only 5-3 on the road. Their only road game this season has been the 41-7 dismantling at the hands of the Bills. This should be another close game between division rivals, and it will likely come down to which defense can slow down the opposing team’s running game. Given the Titans struggles in that area, look for the Colts to come away with the win.
