Khalil Herbert or David Montgomery? Which Bears Running Back Ranks Better For Fantasy Football Following Latest Injury News

Are David Montgomery or Khalil Herbert fantasy football options in Week 16? Ahead of their Saturday matchup against the Buffalo Bills, the Chicago Bears announced that Herbert will be activated off IR, setting up the backfield tandem from earlier in the season. Ahead of Week 16, let’s take a look at the potential Khalil HerbertDavid Montgomery fantasy football value and see which running back ranks as the better play.

Khalil HerbertDavid Montgomery Fantasy Football Outlook

Filling in when David Montgomery was injured earlier in the season, Khalil Herbert shined. The second-year player combined for 234 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Weeks 3 and 4, showing he may be the running back of the future for the Bears.

“He is cleared, ready to go,” Chicago coach Matt Eberflus said Monday, via the Bears website. “Like we said last week, he’s got all his jumps, his speed. He’s been cutting, he’s been moving. He looks great. We’re excited about his return.”

Before going down with a hip injury, Herbert was 11th in the NFL in rushing (643 yards). But it’ll still be hard for the Bears’ more shifty running back to take over the mantle from Montgomery this season.

In his contract year, Montgomery has rushed for 694 yards and five touchdowns. He also has 28 receptions for 282 yards and one touchdown. In the games when Montgomery and Herbert have both been active, Montgomery has played more offensive snaps.

The conditions this Saturday at Soldier Field will keep the Bears and Bills on their toes and likely make for a battle within the trenches, where Montgomery usually thrives. According to the forecast, temperatures are supposed to be in the single digits, with snow expected throughout the week.

While Khalil Herbert will undoubtedly be a part of the Bears game plan in his return from the injured list, David Montgomery should remain the better fantasy football option against the Bills.
