Updated NFL MVP Odds: Jalen Hurts & Tua Tagovailoa Continue to Climb Ranks Through Week 3 of NFL Season

Before the NFL season, few people saw Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts as legitimate MVP candidates, but through just three weeks of the year the quarterbacks have asserted themselves in the conversation.

With both the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins at 3-0 on the season, Tagovailoa and Hurts are among the favorites to win MVP.

Check out the updated MVP odds after week three below:

Sure, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen continues to see his MVP odds shrink, as well. But being as he came into the season as the odds-on favorite to win the award, it’s much more interesting to see Tagovailoa and Hurts enter the conversation.

Allen currently leads the NFL in passing yards, but Tagovailoa are close behind as No. 2 and No. 3 in the league, respectively. Tagovailoa currently has 925 yards to go along with eight touchdowns and two interceptions, while Hurts has 916 yards passing with four touchdowns and one interception on the season.

However, it’s Hurts ability to beat his opponents losing his legs, as well, that has him surging into the top five contenders for the MVP Award. Hurts has 167 rushing yards and three touchdowns during his hot start to the NFL season.

“I wouldn’t say I’m surprised. I’ve seen the growth,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said of Hurts’ rise to stardom, via the team’s transcript. “We talk about this so much with Jalen. Why is he going to continue to reach his ceiling? Because he’s tough, he has high football character, and he loves football. He’s going to reach his ceiling. It’s fun watching him grow.”

It’s incredibly hard not to be impressed with the dominant starts for both Hurts and Tagovailoa thus far, and perhaps they’ll pick up some hardware at season’s end if they continue to shine in the coming weeks.
