Tua Tagovailoa Injury Report: Dolphins Release Quarterback’s Status Ahead of Thursday Night Football

Will the Miami Dolphins be without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for their Thursday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals?

After it appeared that the QB was dealing with concussion symptoms from taking a hard hit from Buffalo Bills linebacker Matt Milano in Week 3, the Dolphins remained adamant that he was not in the concussion protocol.

However, the QB ended up on the injury report this week regardless. On Wednesday, the Dolphins listed Tagovailoa questionable for the Thursday night game with an ankle/back injury.

Fantasy Football Impact of Tua Tagovailoa Injury

In our Stokastic NFL Start/Sit Fantasy Football Rankings, we currently have Tagovailoa sitting as our #10 quarterback for Week 4, behind Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, Marcus Mariota, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Derek Carr and Jared Goff.

So far in the 2022-23 season, Tagovailoa has silenced his doubters and emerged as a true QB1 in the NFL. He’s currently second in the entire NFL (behind Josh Allen) in passing yards with 923. He also has an impressive eight touchdowns to go along with just two interceptions on the young season.

When speaking to the media this week, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said the decision on whether or not Tagovailoa will play Thursday will ultimately come down to how much pain tolerance they’re willing to put on the young QB.

“It’s the functionality of it because all of a sudden your back is overly tight or you feel that crazy pain — your body has a reaction process that you can all of a sudden lose power in your throws, you can’t redirect,” McDaniel said. “And once you can’t protect yourself on an NFL football field, we have to protect you. So it’s both. Yeah, there will be some pain regardless. It’s whether or not that pain hurts him from being able to put his production on the field and escape impending danger, which is part of the job of an NFL quarterback.”

If Tagovailoa is unable to play against the Bengals, it’ll be veteran Teddy Bridgewater in action on National TV.
