Zach Wilson Injury: Jets Betting Line For Week 1 Shifts After News That Joe Flacco Will Be Starting Quarterback

New York Jets fans received some unfortunate injury news regarding starting quarterback Zach Wilson on Wednesday morning.

According to ESPN, the young QB will likely be out for the first three weeks of the regular season after head coach Robert Saleh announced that he will not be able to play their Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

“We’re going to make sure mind and body are 100% and make sure we do right by him,” Saleh said of Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in 2021.

This means that it’ll be veteran and former Ravens Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco to take over under center for Baltimore in the meantime, and Vegas oddsmakers have adjusted their betting line for the Week 1 game accordingly.

Ravens vs. Jets Week 1 Betting Odds

Via DraftKings:

Spread: Ravens -7.5

Moneyline: Ravens -315, Jets +260

O/U: 44.5

1H Spread: Ravens -4

1H Moneyline: Ravens -250, Jets +210

Flacco has not started a regular-season opener since he was a member of the Denver Broncos. That season didn’t go all too well for Flacco.

He started in eight games for the Broncos, going 2-6 with just six touchdowns and five interceptions as the team struggles mightily to move the football with any consistency.

Still, Saleh thinks Flacco could be a starter in the NFL.

“He should be, in my opinion,” Saleh said of Flacco as a starter, via Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports. “He could start in this league. I believe that. Sometimes this league has a tendency to pigeonhole people, or put labels on people, and then their opportunities kind of get limited. But Joe Flacco is a starting quarterback in this league. He’s really, really talented.”

For Flacco to be successful, he would likely need a great supporting cast around him, which will likely not be the case with the Jets.

Things could get ugly fast in New York with Flacco under center to start the season.
