Jonathan Huberdeau over 0.5 assists (-110)

The Calgary Flames take on the Florida Panthers tonight on home ice and should be able to find some offense given the situation the Panthers face in this one.

Indeed, this is a vulnerable Panthers group after playing last night in Edmonton. Not only is this their second game in as many nights but face the task of attempting to bounce back blowing a 3-2 lead with four seconds to go in regulation before losing just 22 seconds into overtime.

The Flames also catch a break and take on netminder Sergei Bobrovsky who is once again struggling this season. Bobrovsky owns an ugly 3.62 GAA and .888 Sv% in his 11 games on the season, continuing a wildly disappointing stretch since signing a mega free-agent deal with the Cats in the summer of 2019.

As for Jonathan Huberdeau, he hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire since being traded to the Flames this past summer. Huberdeau has just 10 points in 18 games after posting a whopping 115 points last season while pacing the league with 85 assists. He’s dealt with poor puck luck from a shooting rate point of view, but Huberdeau has averaged 0.61 assists per game for his career, a number that sits at 0.39 this season. He’s due to pick it up.

He’ll be ready to face his old club tonight so let’s lock in a Huberdeau assist prop in a favorable home matchup.

Mikael Granlund any time goal scorer (+360)

If you’d like to grab some big-time value on this slate consider Mikael Granlund to pot one tonight against the visiting Anaheim Ducks.

The Ducks have simply been horrific defensively this season. They sit last in overall defense, 31st in penalty killing, 31st in shots against per game, last in shots against per 60 minutes at five-on-five and last in expected goals against per 60 minutes of five-on-five action. I’d say their last overall defensive ranking appears justified.

Now, the Predators haven’t exactly put fear into their opponents with their 29th-ranked overall offense, but this has more to do with a first-line player who also gets first-unit power-play reps finding the back of the bet. Granlund skates alongside the team’s best offensive player Filip Forsberg in all offensive situations.

For the season, Granlund has just two goals in 20 games. Hence the long-shot odds. However, even if he’s put just 30 shots on goal so far, his 6.7% shooting rate is tiny and well below his 10.5% career mark. His shooting rates have bounced all over the place throughout his career, but a 6.7% figure is low for any forward.

Even the low-octane Predators should be able to generate offense against the NHL’s worst defense and Granlund is offering a ton of value to get in on the action.

Mathew Barzal any time goal scorer (+310)

Should you not like Granlund’s chances or you’re feeling spicy like myself, consider the Islanders’ Mathew Barzal to net one tonight against the host Flyers.

Like the Ducks, the Flyers sport a disastrous back end. They might sit a palatable 19th in overall defense, but that appears to be generous. The Flyers also sit 25th on the penalty kill, 31st in shot attempts per game and 28th in expected goals against per 60 minutes at five-on-five. The brilliant play of goaltender Carter Hart is the main reason for the disparity between actual and expected results.

While the Flyers deserve a worse fate on defense, Barzal has certainly deserved more goals. In fact, Barzal has scored in just one of 23 games on the season as his only two goals came Nov. 19 against the Stars. He’s also scored on just two of his 53 shots on the season, good for a minuscule 3.8% shooting rate.

Among the 94 forwards with at least 53 shots on goal, only the Devils’ Erik Haula has a lower shooting rate than Barzal. Simply put, the guy is going to score goals in bunches moving forward and the matchups don’t get much more favorable than taking on this Flyers back end.

Consider Barzal to find twine at a fantastic price tonight.
