2022 Bermuda Championship Sleeper Picks: Akshay Bhatia and Ryan Armour Are the Guys to Bet in Bermuda

We have golf this week. The Bermuda Championship at Port Royal isn’t bringing the big names – only Seamus Power sits inside the world top-50 rankings – but a weak field always provides major value. The longer shots have greater appeal during swing season which is only heightened in tournaments like this week, where the field isn’t weighed down by world No. 1 Rory McIlroy. There’s also weather concerns in Bermuda, which make for an interesting mitigating factor for an already weak field. Golfers who have played through rough conditions – be it in Europe or on the Korn Ferry Tour – stand to have a slight advantage. Below we’re looking at the best 2022 Bermuda Championship picks for the week including Akshay Bhatia and Ryan Armour and trying to be the ones posting the HUGE PAYOUT screenshots on Twitter.

A name that came up on this week’s Putting for Dough with myself and Ben Rasa brought about major intrigue – especially from a gambling perspective. The biggest advantage anyone has in this specific event is nothing before or after truly matters. This is as much of a one-off on tour as there is, making it far easier for a huge long shot to sneak up, make the cut, and ultimately win. The field is largely familiar to anyone starting in the way back from an odds standpoint, be it other golfers touring in Europe or the Korn Ferry Tour. Then there’s the weather — the biggest issue for some, where others have thrived, even in limited action.

Bhatia comes with a limited resume off the Korn Ferry Tour but showed he can play through awful conditions. He took home one victory already on the Korn Ferry Tour at the start of the calendar year. Of course, he’s 210-1 for a reason – played awful in his last three events and hasn’t been in any competition for six weeks. But if the wind and rain pick up, someone like Bhatia in a field susceptible to long shots could easily find himself in contention.

Outright Honorable Mention

This week provides a lot of long shot odds, but the overall field isn’t too exciting. Two names to think about when going a little long at Bermuda would be C.T. Pan and Ryan Armour. With Pan it’s a simple strategy, Port Royal is a shorter track that won’t demand long tee shots or iron play. Shorter and accurate hitters like Pan have a strong advantage. As do players with solid history at this specific course, like Armour who has two top-eight finishes. This is also the type of event where poor performance coming in isn’t as heavily weighted, as the field is weak and weather will aid those more familiar with the course.
