2022 Sanderson Farms Championship Sleeper Picks: Taylor Montgomery’s Long Odds Are HUGE Value in Weaker Field

The field for the Sanderson Farms Championship is far from top-heavy, but that only adds value to golfers in the mid and long range. Previous winners have gone about different ways to secure a victory, but in recent years, length off the tee and longer irons have been consistent factors. None of Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler or most of the top-ranked golfers are playing here this weekend, which only widens the door for more golfers to win.

Below we’re looking at the best 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship longshot golf bets for the week and trying to be the ones posting the HUGE PAYOUT screenshots on Twitter.

It’s not often a long shot would sit at 30-1 or even this high on the board in general, but this number is seriously off and worth a bet. Montgomery gained just over 11 strokes putting at the Fortinet, as he put on one of the more masterful performances seen in recent tournaments. He’s as good as anyone above him in this weaker field (especially someone like Denny McCarthy) if Montgomery continues to putt well. He opened in the 40-1 range and was immediately bet down to 35-1. This former Korn Ferry vet should feel at home with much of the field being familiar faces.

This is the tournament that launched Sahith Theegala’s great run of golf last year and could easily do the same for Montgomery. There isn’t anyone — including Theegala — above Montgomery that can combine his length with putting. That is a key difference between him and another strong putter like McCarthy. Anyone winning an event at 30-1 is going to be “longer” odds to win, but Montgomery feels like a strong favorite. That alone is reason to bet him.

For a real long shot, how about a 130-1 monster ticket for Paul Haley? Coming from the Korn Ferry, Haley also put on a fantastic display of putting. On the Junior Tour, he was able to get off the tee and putt, two things that will help him gain edge this weekend. There’s a strong belief that Haley could be the next Theegala or a similar star-to-be off the Korn Ferry, and he’s worth a shot now before more people figure out he can play.

Haley finished top 12 at Fortinet and returns to a field with plenty of Korn Ferry veterans. Not having the likes of McIlroy, Cameron Smith, Patrick Cantlay and others is a break for someone like Haley. His metrics and abilities shrink his actual odds against a weaker — and more familiar — field.
