WNBA Picks Today: Sun vs. Sky & Storm vs. Aces Game 2 Playoff Predictions (Wednesday, August 31)

After two highly competitive series openers on Sunday, the 2022 WNBA Playoffs will continue tonight with a couple of Game 2’s. The Connecticut Sun and Chicago Sky tip off at 8 p.m. and will be followed by a 10:00 p.m. matchup between the Seattle Storm and the Las Vegas Aces. Check out a breakdown of tonight’s matchups below, with the best WNBA picks today, as well as the Sun vs. Sky prediction and Storm vs. Aces prediction below.

WNBA Picks Today: Round 2 Playoff Betting Predictions

WNBA Pick: Sun vs. Sky Game 2

In Game 1, the Sun upset the Sky in Chicago to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Connecticut managed to pick up the win despite Candace Parker having a record-breaking performance in the game as she dropped 19 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists and 10 steals/blocks in the losing effort. If it loses again tonight, Chicago must win consecutive games on the road in Connecticut in order to bring the series back home for a possible Game 5.

As previously mentioned, Parker had a historic performance in Game 1. Unfortunately, she didn’t have many of her teammates step up to help her pull out the win. While Kahleah Copper and Emma Meesseman went for 13 and 10 points, respectively, no one else on the Sky had more than 7 points. Veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot had a miserable game as she had just 5 points and 2 assists. Due to Chicago’s lack of offensive game outside of Parker, it lost a very low-scoring affair 68-63. Much like the Sky, the Sun didn’t have a great offensive showing in the series opener. However, they helped themselves by playing some extraordinary defense. Expect to see both teams have more success scoring points in Game 2, particularly certain Chicago players like Vandersloot and Azura Stevens.

When betting the second game of this series, the best play is to roll with Sky -4.5. The best bet for Game 1 (Sun +3.5) hit with ease, and now it’s time to flip the script. Chicago will ensure that they aren’t under tremendous pressure in Game 3 by winning this crucial second game. That thought process, along with their home court advantage, should help the Sky win this game comfortably.

WNBA Playoff Prediction Today: Sky -4.5 (-110)

WNBA Pick: Storm vs. Aces Game 2

The Storm put together a solid performance against the Aces in Game 1 of their semifinal series. Breanna Stewart, Tina Charles and Jewell Loyd combined for 63 points en route to a win in Las Vegas, while Sue Bird had a 12-assist game. They were hitting on all cylinders offensively and they also managed to hold the top scoring team in the league to just 73 points.

Kelsey Plum and Chelsea Gray were the main scoring options for the Aces last game as they combined for 41 points. It is important to note, however, that those two players combined for 38 field goal attempts. The Storm seemed to focus on A’ja Wilson and limiting her production down low, which led to a ton of forced shots out on the perimeter from the Vegas guards. Plum, Gray and Jackie Young managed to shoot just 3-of-13 from 3-point range, while Wilson had just 10 field goal attempts compared to her season average of nearly 15. She was also neutralized in the post area as she finished the game shooting only eight times in the paint and had six fewer rebounds than veteran Tina Charles. Expect this tactic to continue in Game 2.

When it comes time to place bets for Game 2, the best option is to take Seattle getting 6.5 points. The Storm won outright last game and they were getting even less points. The odds are a bit higher as they’ve jumped from -105 to -115, but this bet still feels generous and the payout won’t be much different than it would’ve been in Game 1 if the unit size stays the same. Trust Seattle to play another strong game against the Aces and to keep it close the whole way through, even if they don’t end up pulling out the win. The point spread is large enough to roll with the Storm.

WNBA Playoff Prediction Today: Storm +6.5 (-115)
