📊 Metrics Explained
OddsShopper gives you more than picks — it gives you the data you need to understand why every bet has an edge.
This page breaks down the key metrics you’ll see across our tools so you can bet smarter with complete confidence.
✅ Expected Value (EV%)
What it means:
EV% is the expected return of a bet, calculated based on the difference between the sportsbook’s odds and our True Odds.
Why it matters:
This is your mathematical edge. A +5% EV means that, over time, you’d expect to earn $5 for every $100 wagered — assuming you placed hundreds of similar bets.
🎯 True Odds
What it means:
True Odds are what we believe the odds should be — based on sharp market data, model output, and real-time adjustments.
Why it matters:
If a sportsbook is offering a worse line than the True Odds, that’s where the edge comes from.
For example, if True Odds are -115 and the book is offering -105 — you have a valuable bet.
📊 OS Rating (OddsShopper Rating)
What it means:
A proprietary metric that scores how much long-term value a bet offers, taking into account EV, market confidence, and other factors.
Why it matters:
OS Rating helps you prioritize among multiple +EV bets — a bet with a 10% EV might not always be better than one with 5%, depending on risk and return consistency.
🧮 Bet Volume Tracker
What it shows:
How many bets you’ve placed in a given day.
Why it matters:
+EV betting works best with volume. You want to get hundreds of bets down each week — not just a few.
📉 Historical ROI
What it means:
The return on investment for a specific market, based on backtested performance of bets that meet your portfolio filters.
Why it matters:
When building a portfolio in the Portfolio Lab, historical ROI helps you choose markets that have performed well under real user conditions — not just theoretical models.
🧪 Sample Size
What it means:
The number of graded bets available for a given market or setting.
Why it matters:
No one wants to base their strategy on a sample of 10 bets. Look for markets with hundreds (or thousands) of past bets when building your portfolios.
🚦 EV Age
What it means:
How long a bet has been +EV since being detected.
Why it matters:
Some bets stay valuable for hours. Others get bet into and lose value quickly. Newer bets may have fresher edge, but older bets can still be viable depending on movement.
The Bottom Line
Every metric in PortfolioEV exists for one reason:
To help you find, evaluate, and bet smarter — with data, not guesswork.
