UFC 291 Odds: Dustin Poirier Favored in Rematch With Justin Gaethje

The last two years have been a mixed bag for Justin Gaethje. He is 2-2 in his last four fights, with one of those defeats coming by submission in Round 1. But despite the up-and-down results, you can’t criticize Gaethje’s level of competition. The lightweight has taken on all comers in the division. His two most recent wins come by decision over Rafael Fiziev and Michael Chandler. His losses came at the hands of Charles Oliveira and Khabib Nurmagomedov. It’s hard to place too much blame on Gaethje given the level of those fighters.

Gaethje and Dustin Poirier share common opponents– and defeats– in Nurmagomedov and Oliveira. Like Gaethje, Poirier also lost to both fighters. Hist first loss was by a third round submission to Khabib in 2019. He lost to Oliveira by a 3rd round submission, as well. The latter fight was two years ago in July of 2021.

Poirier can claim a head-to-head victory over Gaethje, knocking him out in April of 2018. The win was part of a 9-1 stretch for Poirier in which his only loss was the aforementioned defeat to Khabib.

DraftKings has opened the bidding on the fight with Poirier as a -130 favorite over Gaethje’s +110. The price is hovering near those opening Poirier-Gaethje odds but could move as UFC 291 gets closer. Sportsbooks have yet to release Poirier-Gaethje odds for UFC prop bets as of yet.
