The final major of the golf season is here as the world’s best head across the pond for the Open Championship. Euro golf takes center stage, and with it comes all the drama and uniqueness that links golf provides. Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland is the venue, and it should be a perfect backdrop to all sorts of drama. On the betting card we have all sorts of opportunities given it’s a major, so there is no shortage of options when looking to place some wagers. Now let’s get to the board and make some 2025 British Open best bets.

We were treated to Royal Portrush back in 2019 for the Open, and we saw an Irishman in Shane Lowry hoist the Claret Jug in somewhat uneventful fashion. He was half a dozen shots clear of the rest and had his entire game dialed in to post -15.

Like with most courses, particularly links layouts, if golfers are keeping it out of the thick stuff, there are a lot of birdies, even in majors. These courses aren’t overly long, and distance is usually mitigated by bunkers and other hazards. Ball strikers are going to be at the top of my list, as they usually are, and don’t be surprised if it’s a world-class iron player who finally putts well to lift the trophy.

Yes, Scottie Scheffler is and should be the favorite, but links golf can be a great equalizer due to outrageous conditions. We didn’t get that last week in Scotland, but we did see Scheffler struggle with the putter, which left him unable to hunt down the leaders on Sunday.

Now, Rahm needs to do more than beat one guy, but he sits in perfect position heading into this Open. He finished top 10 at both the US Open and PGA Championship and was in contention late before an unfortunate runout. He has loads of experience on links golf courses, and wind isn’t a huge negative on his game, which is key when taking on a course like this.

British Open Championship PGA Best Bet: Adam Scott

If there is one major where you can see any sort of winner, the Open Championship is the one. It’s a layout that typically doesn’t reward pure length, and there is an art form to navigating the conditions that only experience brings out. This allows some of the older, veteran players to compete, and Adam Scott checks a lot of boxes that I am looking for this week. He has seen and done it all but still finds himself on that lone major back at Augusta in 2013. The most likely outcome is he will never win another major, but if he does happen to get one, an Open Championship might be the best chance.

Scott was 17th last week in Scotland, 12th at the US Open and has the right game for Royal Portrush if he gets the right conditions. Like most guys, Scott is searching for a week where he can link up the ball striking with the putter, but he has shown flashes of both during this latest stretch of golf.

You can get him at 80-1, and I am comfortable adding this to the back end of the card. He probably needs a few breaks in terms of the right conditions to get in the hunt, but for these odds, that’s worth backing as a dark horse winner this week.

British Open Championship PGA Best Bet: Tyrrell Hatton

Like all bets, this is one you need to shop as I’ve seen Tyrrell Hatton as low as 25-1 at some books. That’s not enough value, but I can get on board at 33-1, which is available over at FanDuel. I backed Hatton at the US Open as well, and he nearly cashed a 55-1 ticket. Ultimately, he landed in fourth, but he was right in the hunt late on Sunday.

I already mentioned the weather and the erratic nature of the tee times, so keep an eye on when Hatton goes out. If he gets favorable conditions, I might look to some single-round positions and hope that he can get off to a quick start. All of that will be ironed out in Discord as we get closer to lock, but the short version is Hatton is a key piece of the betting puzzle for me this week.
