Some of poker’s best will gather inside Wynn Las Vegas this winter to battle it out for the highest-ever live poker tournament guaranteed prize pool in the 2023 WPT World Championship.
After offering up $15,000,000 guaranteed last year — the total prize pool ended up being almost double that in what was a highly successful inaugural event — the World Poker Tour is upping its game in a major way for the 2023 edition, set to run from Dec. 12 through Dec. 21. A record $40,000,000 guaranteed prize pool will be up for grabs in the $10,400 buy-in tournament.
You may remember it was Eliot Hudson who took home first place in the 2022 WPT World Championship for a cool $4,100,000 payday, with Benny Glaser ($2,830,000) and Jean-Claude Moussa ($2,095,000) rounding out the top three spots.
There will be four starting flights and a televised final table for the flagship tournament in 2023, according to the World Poker Tour. The WPT World Championship will obviously be the main event, but there will be tournaments of all shapes and sizes throughout the festival, with over 30 total poker events scheduled.
If the WPT’s first World Championship last year is anything to go by, there’s reason to get excited about the brand’s second go-around, and that, of course, starts with the sheer amount of money there for the taking in the elevated guaranteed prize pool.
Said WPT CEO Adam Pliska in a release: “The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas is poised to reach new heights, and we wanted to match that expectation with a guarantee that no live poker tournament has ever seen before. The journey to December begins now, and we plan on giving players another unforgettable experience at Wynn Las Vegas.”
