Kristaps Porzingis Injury Update: Wizards Center Now Week-to-Week

Kristaps Porzingis will continue to miss time for the Washington Wizards after the team announced on Twitter that they consider the starting PF “week-to-week.” Porzingis has been out since January 21st when he left the game in the third quarter with an injury. The news could shake up NBA betting markets.

The absence of Porzingis will certainly have bettors thinking about the Wizards chances of making the Eastern Conference playoffs. They are in 10th place in the conference with a record of 22-26. The Chicago Bulls also have a 22-26 record, while the Raptors are 22-27. The Wizards could have trouble staying in the race without Porzingis. Bettors can find an edge on Wizards NBA prop bets, lines and totals with our OddsShopper tools and analysis.

Kristaps Porzingis Injury Update – NBA Betting Impact

When Porzingis initially went down with the ankle injury, Wizards head coach Jr. Wes Unseld  told the Athletic that he think the injury was bad, “but fingers crossed.”

That hope is lingering, with Porzingis now moving from day-to-day to week-to-week.

His spot in the starting lineup was filled by Corey Kispert. The second year pro out of Gonzaga score 14 points in a win over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, chipping in 7 rebounds, one assist and one steal. He recorded seven points on Wednesday versus the Houston Rockets but played just twenty minutes despite starting.

Kispert has started 26 games this season. At 6’6 he he is not a direct replacement for Porzingis, who stands at 7’3. The absence of the big PF has forced the team into a new look.

Porzingis played and started in 41 games for the Wizards prior to the injury last week. He is averaging 32.6 minutes per game, the second highest mark of his career. Porzingis averaged 32.8 in his second season with the New York Knicks in 2016-17. He is averaging 22.8 points per game and 8.8 rebounds.

The Wizards’ frontcourt depth is also thinner after they traded Rui Hachimura to the Lakers last week. Without Hachimura, who could play power forward, it remains to be seen how well the Wizards can perform in the second half of this year.

They are looking to return to the playoffs after missing them a season ago. The Wizards were defeated by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the 2020-21 Eastern Conference playoffs.

Wizards-Jazz NBA Betting & DFS Advice

Sportsbooks have adjusted the NBA betting lines to account for the Porzingis injury. NBA prop markets are usually more volatile, and with the uncertainty surrounding the Wizards’ frontcourt rotation, NBA bettors should pay attention to prop markets when they come out and move throughout the day. OddsShopper will have the sharpest lines updated as they come out. Sign-up for a 7-day trial to get access to those sharp lines instantly.

The pricing un NBA DFS on DraftKings and FanDuel has also adjusted to the absence. However, the shifting rotation is leaving room for value spots, especially in large field tournaments. With players like Kispert starting, but only seeing twenty minutes, the Wizards low-priced rotational pieces may become viable in large field NBA DFS tournaments. Stokastic’s DFS projections will have the latest average fantasy points predictions before every slate.
