Kyrie Irving Injury Update: Will Guard Return for Nets against Suns?

Kyrie Irving is probable to return to play for the Brooklyn Nets at the Phoenix Suns on Thursday after sitting out Tuesday. The latest Kyrie Irving injury update – he has right calf soreness — comes with Brooklyn having lost three in a row playing without Kevin Durant.

“He just reported a little tightness. So essentially just day to day,” Nets coach Jacque Vaughn said of Irving on Tuesday. “We’ll get some treatment, check on it [Wednesday] and hopefully this is short term. … That’s definitely the hope, that after a day, get some treatment, hopefully be ready to go against Phoenix.”

Irving managed just 15 points playing 38 minutes in a 112-102 home loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday, following his 24-point game in a 109-98 loss to the Boston Celtics on Thursday.

That was the Nets’ first game since Durant injured his knee in a 102-101 win against the Miami Heat last Sunday. Brooklyn is 4-16 with Irving and without Durant the past two seasons and 5-6 without both.

On Tuesday, Ben Simmons had 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for his first triple double with Brooklyn and 33rd in his career.

“We can’t expect, we can’t rely on Kev and Ky every night,” Simmons said. “Everyone has to step up and do their job, regardless of who’s going to be starting or who’s playing.”

Brooklyn’s five-game road trip will continue Friday at the Utah Jazz, followed by at the Golden State Warriors on Sunday and at the Philadelphia 76ers next Wednesday.

Cameron Johnson (knee) is probable and Chris Paul (hip) is questionable for Phoenix, which will be without Devin Booker (groin), Josh Okogie (nose), Cameron Payne (foot) and Landry Shamet (foot).
