The Path Got Much Easier for Florida

If you’re looking to get action on a team to win the college baseball world series after the regional, few teams have improved their positioning more than the Florida Gators. No. 3 Arkansas, No. 6 Vanderbilt and No. 11 Oklahoma State got bounced from their side of the bracket in regional play, leaving Bracket 2 somewhat wide open behind the Gators.

No. 2 Florida will get No. 15 South Carolina this round. The Gamecocks swept the Gators earlier this season but did so at home. However, the super regional will take place in Gainesville, and the Gators went a dominant 32-6 at home this season. The Gamecocks went 12-10 on the road, so while they could steal a game from the Gators, it’s unlikely they’ll get two.

After South Carolina, Florida will likely face TCU, Virginia and Oregon in a double-elimination bracket to determine a bid to the college world series. Considering the team with the second-best odds to make the college world series from this side of the bracket is South Carolina, Florida’s second-round opponent, it’s obvious that bookmakers don’t respect the other remaining teams. This is the final chance we’ll get to buy Florida at such a long number, so act quickly.

Kentucky Has a Chance, Why Doesn’t the Market Agree?

The No. 12 Kentucky Wildcats look like the red-headed stepchild of the SEC (well, aside from Alabama, which likely remains off the board due to the recent betting scandal). Each of the remaining non-scandalized SEC teams owns much shorter odds of winning this year’s college world series, including the unseeded Tennessee Volunteers.

Kentucky has a tough matchup this round with the LSU Tigers. They’ll also have to contend with the seemingly unstoppable No. 1 Wake Forest Demon Deacons. But LSU’s pitching staff has been dealing with injuries, so even though their ace pitcher, Paul Skenes, gives them a massive edge in Game 1, things could unravel after his appearance. The Wildcats even recorded five hits and four earned runs on Skenes in the regular season.

Kentucky will probably get bounced from the college baseball tournament by LSU, but if they don’t, their odds to win this year’s title will likely improve by a wider margin than any other team. We can buy them at +3100 (3.1%) via FanDuel Sportsbook to win it all right now. That’s a steal for the second-ranked team in the relative power index (RPI).
