Atlantic Ten Tournament Odds: UMass, Richmond Looking to Go ‘Dancing’

Per DraftKings,

UMass: +1.5 (-110)/Richmond: -1.5 (-110)
Over/Under: 142 points
Moneyline: UMass +120/Richmond (-110)

Richmond enters the game as the higher seed after going 7-11 in conference play. However, the margins are slim between the Spiders and Minutemen, who finished A10 play at 6-12.

One thing that Richmond has going for them is senior Tyler Burton who averaged 18.6 points per game this season. He also tallied 7.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. His scoring numbers were the third highest in the conference, earning him All-Conference honors. UMass does not have any players with those accolades.

However, the Minutemen can boast about winning their only matchup against Richmond this season. UMass took care of business at home, defeating Richmond 85-76 in January. Burton posted a 20 point, ten rebound double-double in the game.

They will need to continue to contain Burton in tomorrow’s matchup. The previous win over Richmond could give UMass confidence, which may be sorely lacking after winning just three out of their last ten games. Richmond also enters the game on a three game losing streak.

Virginia Commonwealth won the A10 regular season title, earning byes in the first and second rounds. Their 24-7 overall record won’t be good enough to make the field of 68 on its own. That means there is a lot more riding on this A10 tournament, since whoever wins will earn an automatic NCAA Tournament bid.

Given the parody in the conference and the lack of elite teams, perhaps tomorrow’s Richmond-UMass matchup could be the start of a Cinderella story that ends at the Big Dance.
