The last time we saw Virginia basketball in action was in a final-minute meltdown against NC State in the ACC Tournament. Perhaps that memory is so fresh that it’s driving bettors away from the Cavaliers in the Colorado State-Virginia First Four NCAA Tournament game on Tuesday night.

Virginia earned two free throws and possession with a 5-point lead but was unable to hang on before eventually losing in overtime to the Wolfpack. Now Tony Bennett’s team backs into the First Four as underdogs, and the public is happy to fade them.

The Colorado State-Virginia First Four odds have the Cavaliers as 2.5-point underdogs at BetMGM, with the majority of bettors taking the Rams.

Let’s take a look at the public betting trends and who our expert likes in Tuesday night’s First Round game.

Colorado State-Virginia First Four Odds & Best Bet

Colorado State won four of its last five games to advance to Tuesday’s First Four and opened as 1.5-point favorites at BetMGM. The Rams have since been bet up to 2.5-point favorites.

According to data released by BetMGM, 52 percent of bets are on the Rams with 58 percent of the money on the favorites, as well. Not only does Colorado State have the edge in total bets, but the bigger bets are coming in on them as well.

That’s not the only line movement this game has seen. The total opened at 118.5 but was bet up to 120.5 with 57 percent of bets hitting the over.

Virginia is looking to wipe out last season’s NCAA Tournament disaster. In the Round of 64 and holding a 2-point lead, senior guard Kihei Clark’s inexplicit pass with 7 seconds left led to a game-winning three-point from Furman’s JP Pegues. Virginia, the 4-seed, was eliminated by the No. 13 seed.

The winner of Colorado State-Virginia moves on to play No. 7 Florida in the South Region.
