The women’s NCAA Tournament has been dominated by Iowa Hawkeyes sharp-shooter Caitlin Clark, with her latest jaw-dropping performance coming against South Carolina on Friday night. Clark’s dominance pushed Iowa to the Final Four win over the previously undefeated Gamecocks, setting up a showdown with LSU for the championship on Sunday. Iowa was a heavy underdog against South Carolina (closing at +500 on DraftKings Sportsbook) but that did not bother Caitlin Clark or the rest of the Hawkeyes bunch. Led by an electric 41 points and eight assists from Clark, the Hawkeyes were able to shock the world and beat South Carolina 77-73.
“Everybody in America picked South Carolina, and deservedly so,” Clark said per NY Times, adding: “But at the same time, the people in our locker room believed in us, and that’s all you need is a belief in one another.”
LSU head coach Kim Mulkey has pulled off the incredible turnaround in just her second year on the job but knows that her group will have a big challenge when trying to defend Clark.
“I’ve never seen a player — I don’t like to use the word “never,” but I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a player that can do what Caitlin does,” said Mulkey, per Saturday Down South. “She’s going to get her points. That girl is phenomenal shooting the ball. But the most impressive thing to me, now that you’re talking to an old point guard, is she makes everybody around her better. You have great players that can get numbers, but she makes others on her team better.”
Caitlin Clark has completely taken the sports world by storm with her performance in the NCAA Tournament thus far. Based on the latest Iowa LSU championship odds, there is a great chance Clark’s run will be cemented with some hardware come Sunday.
