Best Early College Football Bets: James Madison and Todd Centeio are worth the risk

As we look at our best early college football bets, James Madison and Todd Centeio are in a position to make big moves in what should be a fun Saturday of games.

Best Early College Football Bet: Best James Madison Bet (Todd Centeio Special)

Isaiah Sirois: James Madison -14 (-110, BetMGM)

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, on their way to the Sun Belt Championship game, will have to play their regular-season finale against the James Madison Dukes without quarterback Grayson McCall. And although the Dukes (7-3, 5-2 Sun Belt East) won’t qualify for the Sun Belt Championship, their record puts them behind only the Chanticleers (9-1, 6-1 Sun Belt East) in the conference race.

James Madison’s defense has caused problems for opponents all season. It leads the FBS in yards allowed per rush attempt (2.7) and ranks an impressive 13th in yards allowed per game (310.8). Coastal Carolina threw only 15 times last week in its first game without McCall, so their pivot to the running game may not work out here.

JMU also has looked solid on offense, and quarterback Todd Centeio ranks seventh in passing efficiency in FBS. The Dukes have a chance to end their first regular season in the Sun Belt with a resounding win over the conference leader. Don’t expect them to pass up that opportunity.

Nonetheless, that’s our look at the best early college football bet you can make. Our best James Madison bet does feature Todd Centeio heavy. How the young and talented gunslinger goes is how his team will go. Time will tell just how well it works out.
