Jets-Dolphins QB Injury Updates: Ready for Some High-Flying Joe Flacco-Skylar Thompson Action?

The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins finalized their starting quarterback situations for their NFL Week 18 matchup, and the clash is a doozy. The Jets labeled Mike White out for the game, leaving Joe Flacco to start and Zach Wilson to serve as backup. Meanwhile, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel tabbed Skylar Thompson to start, with Teddy Bridgewater dealing with a dislocated pinky on his throwing hand. As a result, the Jets-Dolphins odds have swung again.

Jets-Dolphins Injury Updates: Joe Flacco vs. Skylar Thompson

This line opened at Jets -1 when White was presumed starting and the Dolphins had question marks. Now almost all books now have this at the standard Dolphins -3, so the Vegas consensus is that this quarterback duel makes these teams essentially even on a neutral field. For some added value, however, Unibet is giving the Jets 3.5. The total has not moved since yesterday when White was questionable. If it does, however, make sure to use OddsShopper to find the best odds.

This will be Thompson’s third game with meaningful snaps this year, and the Dolphins are 0-2 in the previous two. Last week, Thompson was 12 of 21 for 104 yards, and Miami was able to make it close against the New England Patriots in a 23-21 loss. In his first game, however, Thompson quarterbacked the Dolphins to a 40-17 loss to these Jets, who started Wilson at quarterback.

Flacco, on the other hand, has three starts this season and handled high volume in all three. Twice he threw over 50 times, and he had 42 attempts for 307 yards and four touchdowns in the other. Though the Jets only won one of Flacco’s starts.

This game is massively important for Miami and not so much for New York, hence the line being where it is despite the Jets’ clear quarterback advantage on the surface. The Dolphins need a win and a Patriots loss to sneak into the No. 7 seed in the AFC playoffs. The Jets were eliminated from postseason contention last week. Plus, because this game and the Patriots-Buffalo Bills game take place at the same time, the motivation aspect will not have an impact on the spread before kickoff.
