Aaron Rodgers Talks Retirement. Let’s Navigate His Labyrinth

The Aaron Rodgers retirement update speculation world is going to be insane in the near future, especially since the Green Bay Packers missed the playoffs this season.

While no one can truly expect a player to know his future immediately after a loss to end the season that prevents postseason glory, Rodger’s postgame press conference on Sunday was like navigating a maze of emotions, word-filler and other stuff he usually reserves for the Joe Rogan Podcast.

I kid! He wasn’t that sort of out there during the postgame.

Aaron Rodgers Retirement Update

“At some point, the carousel comes to a stop and it’s time to get off, and I think you kind of know when that is,” Aaron Rodgers said Sunday. “And that’s what needs to be contemplated. Is it time? Also, what’s the organization doing? That’s part of it, as well. But the competitive fire is always going to be there. I don’t think that ever goes away. Sometimes it gets transferred, I think, to other things that might not ever fill that large void. But like I said, I feel good about what I’ve accomplished in this league and wouldn’t have any regrets walking away. But I got to see what it feels like once I get away from this.”

Given the Packers had a bit of a mixed-bag of a season, coupled with the perception of Rodgers from some (not all) souring a bit over the last 18 or so months, it’ll be as interesting to see what Rodgers wants as opposed to what the Packers want.

Of course Aaron Rodgers is historically good at the violence on blades of grass, but he’s certainly on the wrong side of his prime. As for the Packers, who didn’t exactly do a great job surrounding an all-time great gunslinger with weapons over the course of his career, a youth movement can be made… but it can also be done while still allowing their very best player to play behind center.

Nonetheless, a lot of word vomit will happen between now and the time we receive full clarity on the Aaron Rodgers retirement situation. Until then, it’s probably best to take all the words said from everyone’s mouth with a grain of salt. After all, how much are you thinking about going back to work the moment you clock out for the weekend?
