Las Vegas RaidersDetroit Lions (45.5 Game Total)

Fingers crossed we get one decent primetime game this entire NFL season as the Raiders travel to Detroit to take on the Lions on Monday night. The fact both teams are coming off horrific losses — the Raiders against a Tyson Bagent-led Bears squad 30-12 and the Lions thrashed by Lamar Jackson’s Ravens team 38-6 — at least gives us hope they play some inspired, bounce-back football in this one. And with the devastating Kirk Cousins Achilles injury that occurred Sunday, this is a chance for the Lions to put some separation between them and the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North at the halfway point of the season. They also have one of the easiest remaining strengths of schedule left in the NFL; finding a win here before their Week 9 bye would do wonders. But as much as I’d love to back the Lions in this spot, sitting as touchdown favorites grades out as appropriate, especially when every book known to man has the same line.

However, a potential parlay of the Lions moneyline with a prop or two is not out of the question here (let’s be serious, you were thinking about it anyways). And one such prop I keep gravitating to when looking at the top of the OddsShopper board is Jimmy Garoppolo’s under 256.5 passing yards. After missing Week 7’s embarrassing Bears beatdown, the Raiders’ top option at quarterback returns after practicing in full on Friday and Saturday and seems to be fully recovered from his back ailment. Still, he’s been far from exceptional even when healthy this season: Seven touchdowns, eight picks and an underwhelming 215.8 yards through the air per game. And while the inflated number is clearly due to the decent total (46) and noted Lions pass funnel (second-fewest rushing yards allowed per game, 10th-most passing yards against per game), 256.5 is a substantial overcorrection. Expect this line to move down fast, but I’d be willing to short this prop into the mid-240 range assuming the standard -110.
