Los Angeles Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs (-5.5)

Justin Herbert has faced the Chiefs six times in his career, and five of those games were decided by one score. Two of them were decided in overtime, and the only score that wasn’t competitive was a meaningless Week 17 game for the Chiefs where Andy Reid sat all of his starters.

The Chargers are coming off a bad home loss to the Cowboys where Brandon Staley’s decision-making was (once again) at best questionable and at worst terrible. Staley is the main reason I’m generally opposed to betting the Chargers to cover spreads, but this is one of those critical games where, even if Los Angeles doesn’t win, they should be able to keep it close. Moreover, it’s usually one or two bad decisions from Staley that keeps the Chargers from winning in a spot like this — not from covering.

We’ve seen some fantastic defensive play from the Chiefs this season, but offensively things have yet to click. Aside from Travis Kelce, there’s no reliable playmaker in the passing game, and on the other side the Chargers have enough weapons to keep things competitive.

Expert Week 7 Pick: Chargers +5.5

Miami Dolphins vs. Philadelphia Eagles (-2.5)

Philadelphia is coming off of a terrible loss to the Jets where they must have left 150 yards on the field from drops alone. From DeVonta Smith dropping what would’ve been a 50-yard touchdown to Dallas Goedert dropping a ball that fell into the defender’s hand to Kenneth Gainwell dropping a critical first down, nothing went right for the Eagles in Week 6. They were also without top cornerback Darius Slay and rookie sensation Jalen Carter, and Lane Johnson left this game with an ankle injury. The good news here, though, is all three of them could be back for a marquee matchup with the Dolphins on Sunday night.

On the surface this might feel like the type of spot where the Dolphins roll, but when teams can get pressure on Tua Tagovailoa and stifle the run game, Miami’s offense begins to look mortal. We saw as much in Week 4 when the Bills put a 48-20 beating on them in New York. The Eagles defense has recorded more pressures than any team in football with 77 and is top 5 in sacks (20) to boot. It is also limiting opponents to only 3.6 yards per attempt on the ground. Coming back home after an embarrassing loss the previous week, the side to be on here is Philadelphia at -2.5.

Expert Week 7 Pick: Eagles -2.5

Green Bay Packers (-1) vs. Denver Broncos

The public is all over the Packers this week, and why wouldn’t it be after seeing how lifeless this Broncos offense was on Thursday night against the Chiefs? What’s funny, though, is the Broncos still held the Chiefs to only 19 points at home on a night where they should’ve gotten destroyed. They claimed to have cleared up some issues on the communication side, and it showed, which should do them a lot of good against a quarterback in Jordan Love who has been regressing by the week.

Love has arguably been the worst quarterback in football since Week 3, leading the league in interceptions with six while throwing only two touchdowns and completing only 55% of his passes. He’s connected on only 25% of deep balls on the season and doesn’t look like the type of player a team can lean on to win games. Not to mention, Aaron Jones still hasn’t logged a full practice since missing Green Bay’s Week 5 loss in Las Vegas. I’m going to bank on the Broncos defense being improved — not great, but improved — at home, where they are somehow dogs to the 2-3 Packers.

Expert Week 7 Pick: Broncos +1

Best Spread Line: Broncos + 107 at DraftKings
