Seahawks -49ers Betting Line Stays Despite Heavy Action
Per BetMGM, the line initially opened with the 49ers as 9.5-point favorites, which remains the odds just hours before kickoff despite bettors flocking to the 49ers’ side. According to BetMGM’s John Ewing, 71% of bets and 82% of the money is on the 49ers to cover the spread as the home favorites. During last year’s NFL Playoffs, the 49ers made a run to the Conference Championship before being bounced by the eventual Super Bowl champion, Los Angeles Rams. After that game, they decided to relegate Jimmy Garoppolo to backup duties, handing over the reins to Trey Lance. But when Lance was injured in Week 2, Garoppolo once again led the charge for the bulk of the season.
Now, though, the mantle has been passed to Brock Purdy following a late-season injury to Garoppolo. In his five starts, the former “Mr. Irrelevant” has adored himself to the Niners fanbase and proven that he is more than capable of running Kyle Shanahan’s offense. He has gone 5-0, throwing for 13 touchdowns to go along with just five interceptions.
“I don’t want to make it bigger than what it is,” Purdy said Wednesday, per The Athletic. “Obviously, there’s more on the line and everything, but I think having six games under my belt in terms of just playing in an NFL game and trying to win for four quarters has helped me get to this point. All the guys in the locker room have my back. We’ve all grown together. So, we’re ready for what’s ahead.”
Purdy will be going up against Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, who also knows how it feels to be written off. Smith spent the first four years of his career with the New York Jets. But after being unsuccessful and deemed a “bust” by many, Smith will now have the opportunity to start his first career game in the NFL Playoffs at the age of 32.
“I don’t think we should be getting hyped up right now or acting like this is our end goal because we have another goal in mind,” Smith said, via Fox News. “Obviously it starts just one game at a time, one play, one practice at a time, staying focused on staying in the moment. But we know that we can’t just say, ‘Oh, we’re happy to be in the playoffs.’ There’s more to it. We’ve got to stay focused on that.”
While Geno Smith tries to downplay his underdog role, the Seahawks-49ers betting line certainly shows they’ll have their work cut out for them in order to pull off the upset at Levi’s Stadium.
