The XFL Season Began With A Horrid Last-Second Bad Beat For Some

The XFL season began on Saturday, with many bettors trying their hand in the Spring football league with the NBA in the midst of their All-Star festivities. For some, the XFL betting was a disaster on Saturday. Unfortunately for those backing the Arlington Renegades, a terribly unfortunate backdoor bad beat situation unraveled at the end of their game against the Vegas Vipers.

Arlington Renegades Gives XFL Bettors Bad Beat Situation

Trailing by eight late in the fourth quarter, the Vipers were able to find the end zone to cut the lead to two with just a few seconds left on the clock. However, they were unable to convert, and the Renegades were able to notch the win. The Renegades closed the game as a 3.5-point favorite.

The Renegades were trailing by 11 at halftime, but head coach (and longtime Oklahoma Sooners head coach) Bob Stoops made the necessary adjustments to get his team the first win of the XFL season.

“As much as anything, we didn’t execute third down very well on either side of the ball,” Stoops told the ABC broadcast after the game, per Sporting News. “We got hit defensively on three or four third downs, and offensively [we] couldn’t convert some third downs.”

The Regenegades were also boosted by a series of mistakes by the Vipers right out of the gate in the second half. The Vipers’ offense struggled to control the football, turning it over in four of its first five possessions to start the second half. Arlington was able to score all 19 of its second-half points off those turnovers, two coming from interceptions from Luis Perez.

It was a good start to the season for Stoops and his squad, but for all the XFL bettors with a Renegades ticket, the whole spring football idea may be losing its luster quickly.
