2023 National League MVP Odds: Bettors Drawn to Trea Turner After Heroic WBC Performance

The 2023 MLB season is upon us, with bettors having the last opportunity to lock in their futures before the first pitch on Thursday afternoon. The National League MVP race features a wide-open field of star power, with the 2023 NL MVP odds showing it is anyone’s to win. Per the latest 2023 MLB futures betting report, Philadelphia Phillies newcomer Trea Turner is a hot name on the MVP market.

2023 NL MVP Odds & Bets: Trea Turner Leads the Way

Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Trea Turner is the most bet player to win the National League MVP Award. At+800, Trea Turner’s MVP odds are behind just Padres outfielder Juan Soto (+550). They are followed by Ronald Acuna Jr. (+850), Mookie Betts (+900), Fernando Tatis Jr. (+1000), Nolan Arenado (+1400), Paul Goldschmidt (+1500), Pete Alonso (+1500) and Manny Machado (+1500).

Turner is arguably the best true five-tool player in the entire league, exhibiting a rare mix of speed and power. He was the hottest name on the free agent market, and the Phillies were there to scoop him up with a massive 11-year contract. In 2022, Turner slashed .298/.343/.466 with 21 home runs and a career-high 100 RBIs. He also stole 27 bases and finished 11th in the MVP voting.

Despite his elite 2022 campaign, it is entirely possible that a large portion of the Trea Turner MVP hype is centered around his performance for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Turner got hot at the plate and rode the momentum for the duration of the tournament, slashing .391/.440/.1.043. However, it was his five home runs that electrified the USA supporters and nearly led them to a WBC title.

Turner’s efforts were key in leading Team USA to a heavyweight showdown with Japan for the championship, where Japan got the edge in a 3-2 thriller. Turner opened the scoring in the championship game with a solo shot to left field.

Now, Turner will turn his attention to trying to back up the hype for a Phillies fan base that already has high expectations for the shortstop. It is safe to say Turner is ecstatic that he chose the Phillies after spending the Spring with his new teammates, even if the decision wasn’t always an easy one.

“Looking back, it looks like it was super obvious, like such a fit and all that,” Turner said to the Washington Post. “But going through it, I don’t know if that’s fair to say. Free agency is a lot different than people think it is, including myself. I don’t think you know who’s going to be interested in you, who will have the money, all those factors.”

The love affair between Turner and the Phillies is already beginning, and the latest 2023 NL MVP odds & bets show bettors are also expecting big things out of Trea Truner in “the city of brotherly love”.
