Alex Cobb-Clarke Schmidt Fantasy Baseball Projections

Per Stokastic’s expert DFS projections, Cobb (owned in 47.7% of ESPN leagues) projects to have 13.78 fantasy points. Schmidt (owned in less than 20% of leagues) projects out at 12.84 points.

Schmidt entered Spring Training battling for a spot in the Yankees rotation. But thanks to injuries to Luis Severino and Carlos Rodon, he will now be heavily relied upon to start the season. The 27-year-old turned in his first full MLB season in 2022. He made 29 appearances, including three starts, going 5-0 with a 3.12 ERA in 57.2 innings.

“My mentality never changes,” Schmidt said after Rodon’s injury was announced, per NY Daily News. “I’m always trying to be aggressive and on the attack. I’ve always wanted the opportunity to be a consistent starter in the big leagues and I always felt that would come.

“I think for me, it’s continuing to stay within myself, go out there and throw strikes, I’m trying to be myself and go out there and cover a lot of things.”

While Schmidt is just hoping to stick around in the Yankees’ rotation, Cobb has his role set in stone. The veteran workhorse takes the ball to begin year 12 of his MLB career and has shown that he can still remain a serviceable starter in the league. He went 7-8 with a 3.78 ERA in 2022, his first full season with the Giants.

But Cobb will have his work cut out for him when facing off against Aaron Judge and a potent Yankees lineup that ranked second in the MLB in runs scored last season. Giants ace Logan Webb allowed four runs in six innings in the Yankees’ 5-0 win on Opening Day.

On paper, the Alex Cobb-Clarke Schmidt fantasy baseball projections for Saturday show neither ranks as a great play. But if you find yourself choosing between one of the arms, give the slight edge to the proven Cobb.
