Best Angels-White Sox Bet: Tyler Anderson Faces Righties Galore (May 30)

What has happened to Tyler Anderson? The soft-throwing lefty was stellar as a member of the Dodgers last season, posting a career-best 2.57 ERA and ranking in the 9th percentile in walk rate. Fast forward to this season, and it has been far from the same. He is walking batters at a career-high rate, and his strikeout rate is below 14%. That is the spot to attack Anderson tonight. Let’s dive into the best Angels-White Sox bet for Tuesday, May 30.

Angels-White Sox Bet: Tyler Anderson

Tyler Anderson had the perfect situation last season on the Dodgers, as he had zero pressure on him as a back-end starter in the rotation. Now he is held to a higher standard. Anderson signed a three-year, $39 million contract to be a stable presence in the Angels rotation and get them over the hump. So far it has not gone that way. Anderson has a 4.81 ERA and only 30 strikeouts in 190 at-bats thus far this season, which is a career low in terms of strikeout rate.

The White Sox are primed to platoon right-handed batters in their lineup against Anderson. Righties are hitting .294 off the lefty to start the season, and with the White Sox hitting .284 against lefties in May, the ninth-best rate in baseball, it is bound to get ugly in Chicago tonight.

Anderson was extremely solid in his last start against the tough Boston Red Sox, allowing one run in six innings of work, but he only struck out three batters. That made it his seventh start with under five strikeouts in nine games this season. His increased walk rate and sky high xERA should give MLB prop bettors confidence that Anderson will struggle tonight.
