Best Guardians-White Sox MLB Bets: Dylan Cease on the Rise (May 18)

Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease has been anything but that this year, but the sportsbooks have listed the Chicago White Sox as betting favorites over the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday afternoon.

Cease nearly won the Cy Young in 2022, blossoming into a star in the American League and dominating opposing batters on a consistent basis. It is no secret that the beginning of the 2023 season has been filled with disappointment for White Sox fans, and perhaps the most agonizing aspect has been the downturn of Cease. The right-hander will have a chance to turn the tables on Thursday afternoon when the Sox close out their series against the divisional rival Cleveland Guardians. The best Guardians-White Sox bets for Thursday include backing Dylan Cease.

Per DraftKings Sportsbook, the White Sox (-140) opened as a slight favorite over the Guardians (+120) as the South-Siders look to finish the series on a positive note before welcoming the lowly Kansas City Royals to town. No one is saying the White Sox (15-28) are on the cusp of greatness or anything, but they have been playing a bit better in recent games.

The betting odds held steady overnight and remain at -140 and +120, respectively. The total is 7.5 with -110 juice both ways.

After a competitive series with the defending champion Houston Astros, the White Sox opened with a convincing 8-3 win over the Guardians Tuesday. Center fielder Luis Robert has been red-hot at the dish, leading the offense with home runs in four consecutive game while the team has had better pitching performances from the likes of Lance Lynn and Michael Kopech. Now, the Sox need their former Cy Young candidate to step up and carry the rotation if they want any chance of creeping into postseason contention this season.

Cease bounced back from a rough start against the Kansas City Royals to stymie the Houston Astros, throwing six shutout innings against the potent Houston lineup his last time out. It marked the first time Cease completed six innings since mid-April. There is also some recent history of success against Cleveland. Although Cease has yet to face the rival this season, he allowed just one earned run in his three second-half starts against the Guardians in 2022.

He will be opposed by Guardians left-hander Logan T Allen, who has a 1-1 record with a 3.43 ERA in his four starts. However, Allen has 4.50 ERA in the month of May and only lasted 4.1 innings against the Los Angeles Angels his last time out.

Bettors should feel comfortable locking in the White Sox moneyline in this spot (-140 at DraftKings Sportsbook) and be sure to keep their eyes out to see if there are some favorable lines on Dylan Cease props when those get released.
