Best Marlins-Cubs Bets: Justin Steele Gets Cubs Back on Track

Check out the Cubs-Marlins odds, per BetRivers:

  • Moneyline: Cubs -165, Marlins +140
  • Run Line: Cubs -1.5 (+125), Marlins +1.5 (-157)
  • Total: Over 9 (-109), Under 9 (-110)

After falling on a ninth-inning walk-off home run to the Nationals on Thursday, the Cubs have now lost their past three and have gone 1-6 in their past seven games. Needless to say, returning home will be a welcomed sight for the team, but having the luxury of handing the ball to Steele should also give them some needed confidence.

Steele has been one of the most successful pitchers in all of baseball since last year’s All-Star Break and has picked up right where he left off to start the 2023 campaign He is currently 4-0 with a 1.49 ERA on the season and gave up just two runs in six innings against the Marlins last weekend.

Miami have had some time to cool off after sweeping the Cubs last weekend, and they did just that. The Fish got swept in their three-game set against a juggernaut of an Atlanta Braves team and will now hope they can replicate some of the success they had against the Cubs last weekend.

They will be handing the ball to Edward Cabrera on Friday. Cabrera had success against the Cubs last time out, striking out 12 batters in just five innings of work. But control issues have been a large part of the narrative for Cabrera, and he had to overcome some early walks against the Cubs. He has 25 walks on the season, resulting in a failure to pitch deep into games.

The Cubs lineup has been scuffling lately, scoring just five runs in their last three games combined. Look for them to keep a patient approach against Cabrera, wearing down the right-hander while Steele keeps it close and gives them a chance to get back in the win column. Chicago has a great opportunity to come away with the win, but there is also value in betting the under given the matchup.
