Best MLB Player Prop Bet: Andrew Abbott| August 5

Andrew Abbott Prop O/U 5.5 Hits Allowed

The Cincinnati Reds are taking over the MLB with their young talent. Elly Da La Cruz and the rest of the lineup take most of the attention, but 24-year-old LHP Andrew Abbott is a star in the making. Abbott will be on six days’ rest today after a short outing in Chicago against the Cubs. He lasted just three and a third innings and allowed four runs and three walks. What prop did he stay under though? You guessed it. Hits allowed.

The hits allowed market continues to be a gem for many pitchers. The small knock on Abbott has been his BB%. He ranks in the 45th percentile and has issued at least two free passes in seven of 11 starts in his rookie year. But, the more walks he issues, the fewer hits he’s most likely going to allow. Abbott will rack up the strikeouts against most teams, which will also rise his pitch count, but it may be difficult against a Nationals team that strikes out at just the fourth-lowest clip this season against southpaws.

For a rookie like Abbott, the numbers show how much more comfortable he is at home. In six starts behind the Reds faithful, he has a 1.60 ERA and has stayed under this line in all six starts. The selling Nationals are ready to turn the page on their 2023 season and sold one of their top hitters in switch-hitting Jeimer Candelario to the Cubs. If the hits allowed market is not available, over 17.5 outs are playable as well.
