Sunday Night Baseball Best Bet: Can Trea Turner Stay Hot (April 2)

Sunday Night Baseball is back in action tonight on ESPN as the Texas Rangers host the Philadelphia Phillies for the third and final game of the opening series. The Rangers are looking for the sweep after the derailing they put on the Phillies on Saturday by a score of 16-3. The Phillies will look to pick up their first win of the season before a series with the New York Yankees starting on Monday. New Phillies acquisition Trea Turner headlines the best Sunday Night Baseball player prop bet, including a ladder play via FanDuel.

Sunday Night Baseball Player Prop Bet | Trea Turner

Trea Turner was one of the biggest names to hit free agency this past offseason, and he showcased his all-around game in front of the whole world during the World Baseball Classic a few weeks ago. He hit a home run in all three of the playoff games for a total of five home runs and 11 RBIs during the three-week tournament. With Phillies teammate Bryce Harper sidelined for multiple months, Turner is now being leaned upon to jumpstart the offense as the leadoff hitter.

Turner has not slowed down since his remarkable run in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Through two games with his new team, he has accumulated three hits on nine at-bats, which doesn’t include a walk. And since leads off for a loaded offense that can put up runs in a hurry, he had five plate appearances in both games.

Pitching for the Texas Rangers will be left-hander Martin Perez. Perez was a great acquisition for the Rangers last year, as he made his first All-Star appearance after two rocky seasons in Boston. He consistently will pitch six-plus innings and cash most player prop bets that involve his outs or earned runs allowed. Turner and Perez have limited history, but it bodes well for Turner. The last time they faced off was in 2020 when both were on different teams. Turner, a member of the Washington Nationals at the time, had a single and a double. Perez, like Turner, had a strong offseason in Spring Training and the World Baseball Classic for Venezuela.

Count on Turner getting at least four plate appearances tonight and making the most out of them. BetMGM has the best line for over 1.5 total bases at +100, with FanDuel allowing bettors to ladder his total bases to 3+ at +210.
