The Miami Heat can defend a team’s best players, but they struggle against their ancillary weapons. For example, they limited Tobias Harris, James Harden and Joel Embiid to below-average scoring performances in Monday night’s win. However, P.J. Tucker, who is averaging a lowly 3.6 points per game, racked up eight and shot a perfect 2-for-2 from the field. De’Anthony Melton took eight shots, including five triples, but only finished with six points. That should change this evening.
Melton got cold early and recorded below-average numbers. He hit a triple on the game’s opening possession before missing a pair later in the quarter. However, two of his looks came from an area where the Heat struggle: the corner. The Heat have allowed the most corner 3’s per game (4.3) on the fifth-highest shooting percentage (41.7%) this year. Melton ranks third on the 76ers in corner 3’s attempted per game (1.5) and should see at least a pair of looks from there again tonight.
