Best Lakers vs. Suns Prop Bet: Deandre Ayton Double-Double Odds Set Too High

The 5-10 Los Angeles Lakers will take on the 10-6 Phoenix Suns in the Footprint Center tonight. After opening the season at 2-10, the Lakers have started to turn things around and have won their last three games. Since the Suns won’t have either Chris Paul or Cameron Johnson, tonight’s contest should be winnable for the Lakers. Bettors looking to turn a profit on tonight’s action should tail this Lakers-Suns prop bet or check out OddsShopper’s tools for other sharp plays.

Deandre Ayton Double-Double

Phoenix’s Deandre Ayton steps on the gas whenever he faces the Los Angeles Lakers. He played them four times last season and recorded a double-double in all but one matchup while averaging 18 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. For some perspective, he averaged only 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds that season.

Ayton started this year somewhat slowly and has averaged only 14.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game thus far. However, he has started to turn things around with Chris Paul and Cameron Johnson now sidelined. Through his last five contests, Ayton has recorded 14.2 points and 9 rebounds per game. He finished with a double-double in three of those contests. Although his scoring is down, his rebounding is finally starting to trend up. Ayton has averaged a double-double in every season of his career, so he should benefit from positive regression as this season progresses.

Further, the Lakers are a soft matchup for Ayton. They have allowed the most rebounds per game to centers (17.5) and the 12th-most points (22.6). Their second-fastest pace will give Ayton plenty of chances to grab missed shots or make a shot of his own, especially as the Lakers rank a lowly 20th in team rebound rate (49.2%). Ayton leads Phoenix’s rotation in rebound rate (16.3%) and shouldn’t have a problem scoring enough to get a double-double.
