Best Magic-Pelicans Player Prop: Will Wendell Carter Jr. Swat a Shot? (February 27)

The Orlando Magic and New Orleans Pelicans will square off on Monday night. New Orleans continues to struggle without star power forward Zion Williamson, although the lowly Magic make for a good bounce-back spot. Bettors hunting out NBA player props for Monday’s Magic-Pelicans game should head to DraftKings for the best price on this bet. The book has simply left too much value on the Wendell Carter Jr. player prop markets. Make sure to check out OddsShopper’s tools for other sharp plays.

Best Magic-Pelicans NBA Player Prop | Wendell Carter Jr.

Wendell Carter Jr. Prop O/U 0.5 Blocks

The New Orleans Pelicans have not been taking smart shots lately. Through the last 15 contests, they have allowed the second-most blocks per game to centers (2.5). Mo Bamba blocked three shots against them for the Lakers in only 16 minutes before the All-Star Break. Two of his frontcourt teammates, Anthony Davis and Jarred Vanderbilt, combined for another three blocks.

The blocks haven’t stopped coming since the All-Star Break ended. The Pelicans played the Raptors on Thursday and allowed five blocks, three of which went to frontcourt players. They then played the Knicks on Saturday and gave up seven blocks. Big men Mitchell Robinson, Jericho Sims and Obi Toppin all recorded at least one swat.

Orlando’s Wendell Carter Jr. isn’t the most aggressive defender, but he does more than enough to warrant a shorter price. Carter is averaging 0.6 blocks per game on the season and 0.7 in 2023. He is also averaging 0.24 more blocks per game against Western Conference opponents. Although he failed to record a block in Orlando’s prior meeting with New Orleans, he swatted three total shots against them last year.

Poor shot selection by New Orleans and a lack of alternative rim protectors combine to make WCJ a sharp play tonight. Although Bol Bol is another strong bet to get a block, the over for his block prop (-145) sits far shorter than the over for Carter’s (+135) at DraftKings Sportsbook. Readers yet to register at DraftKings can score $150 in bonus bets after winning a $5 moneyline wager!
