Celtics NBA Championship Odds: Does Rough Stretch Affect Status?

The Boston Celtics have been the betting favorites to win the 2023 NBA Championship all season long, but are facing their first real adversity of the season during a recent skid. The latest Celtics NBA championship odds show they are still among the elite, but perhaps they should be worried about some teams picking up steam at the right time.

Celtics NBA Championship Odds Plummet During Recent Skid

The Celtics were the heavy favorites (+275 on DraftKings Sportsbook) to win the championship following the Trade Deadline at the end of last month. Those odds have dropped to +330 during their current skid. The Celtics are still the NBA Championship favorites, but they are now closely followed by the Phoenix Suns (+350), Milwaukee Bucks (+450) and Denver Nuggets (+700).

The Celtics were cruising for the better part of the first half, bringing an NBA-best record into the All-Star Break, but it has not been smooth sailing since they returned to the floor. The Celtics have gone 3-4 since the return of play, and are currently in the midst of their first three-game losing streak of the season.

Boston lost their second-straight game in OT on Monday night, with the Cleveland Cavaliers benefitting from two missed free throws by Grant Williams as time expired in regulation.

After the game, head coach Joe Mazzulla said the recent string of “excruciating” losses were all part of the process, forcing the team to go through some things that they will benefit from in the long haul.

“I don’t think it’s that excruciating,” head coach Joe Mazzulla said after the game, per Clutch Points. “It’s a part of it…I mean, we did a lot of good things for a long time after coming off a double-overtime game, second night of a back-to-back, playing three and a half quarters really well, and then just not executing down the stretch. You have to go through those things, and so, to me, in order to experience success you have to have failures. I don’t like losing, I hate losing, but I understand it and I know that you need to do it in order to get to where you want to get to.”

Based on the latest Celtics championship odds, fans should not panic about the past week. However, Boston is going to have to stay focused because the Suns and Bucks are starting to form into postseason threats, and they have shown some weaknesses in recent games. Boston will have the opportunity to get back into the win column against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night
