Donovan Mitchell Injury News: Will Cavaliers Forward Play Against Grizzlies?

Donovan Mitchell is unlikely to be available for the Cleveland Cavaliers when they play at the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. The latest Donovan Mitchell injury news says the forward did not practice Tuesday because of a groin injury and was uncertain to travel with Cleveland to Memphis.

“I am not sure about that yet,” Cleveland coach J.B. Bickerstaff told the Cavaliers website.

Cleveland is a 6.5-point road underdog at Memphis. The Cavaliers are 9-13 on the road and 19-4 at home this season. They are 7-13-2 against the spread on the road, fourth worst in the NBA.

“I don’t want to put too much on the ups and downs of our road,” Bickerstaff said. “I think there are different causes for what’s happened to us on the road that we have to be better at and that we need to address, obviously. But it’s not just a matter of being at home or on the road. There’s just certain things that we need to make sure we improve on and that we carry with us.”

Mitchell did not play the fourth quarter of a 113-103 home win against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday. He missed five games earlier this season: one for rest, two with right leg soreness, one with a right ankle sprain, and one with a left ankle sprain.

The Cavaliers next play at home Friday against the Golden State Warriors and Saturday against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Entering Tuesday, Mitchell was ninth in the NBA at 28.4 points per game. He scored an NBA season-high 71 points on Jan. 2 against the Chicago Bulls and scored 46 points on Jan. 10 at the Utah Jazz.

He is +4000 to win NBA MVP, eighth best per FanDuel.
