NBA Parlay Picks: Can Game Theory Secure the Bag? (March 29)

After a 2-0 run, our game-theory parlays cooled down after the Chicago Bulls failed to cover the +10.5 by a two-point margin. However, the presupposition of these parlays — that, this late in the year, not every team still has the incentive to win — remains a profitable betting strategy. Making your parlay picks with teams’ big-picture goals in mind is a sharp way to make money late in the year. Here are my top NBA parlay picks for Wednesday, March 29 at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Best NBA Parlay Picks | March 29

Brooklyn Nets -620

At 40-35, the Brooklyn Nets rank sixth in the Eastern Conference and have a half-game lead over the Miami Heat. Although they likely cannot pass the fifth-ranked New York Knicks, they can maintain their edge over Miami by continuing to win easy games down the stretch. Tonight’s matchup with the Houston Rockets stands out as another layup win they can use to bolster their positioning.

The Nets haven’t looked great since the All-Star Break, but they aren’t tanking. Brooklyn ranks 21st in net rating (-3.3) since the pause, far better than the 28th-ranked Rockets (-9.1). Houston is on a six-game skid and should keep losing. The Nets blew out the Rockets by a 22-point margin earlier this month and a similar outcome is likely in the cards this evening.

Dallas Mavericks +4

We’ll add the Mavericks to this parlay at their standard pricing. The 76ers could be without Joel Embiid and James Harden, both of whom are questionable and missed Philadelphia’s most recent game against the Denver Nuggets. The loss moved the 76ers to 2.5 games behind the Boston Celtics for the second seed and 2.5 games above the Cleveland Cavaliers for the fourth.

It’s unlikely that the 76ers can either improve or worsen their seeding at this point. Their best-case outcome is probably the third seed, and their worst-case outcome is the fourth. Seeding may not matter much to Doc Rivers with both Harden and Embiid dealing with injuries. Exposing them to more wear and tear so close to the playoffs is likely a bigger risk than finishing fourth in the Eastern Conference.

In contrast, the Dallas Mavericks rank 11th in the Western Conference and need to string some wins together just to make the play-in tournament. They’re tied with the 10th-ranked Oklahoma City Thunder and are a half-game behind the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavericks turned their sloppy four-game losing streak around with a blowout win over the Indiana Pacers, and they should at least keep Wednesday’s game against the 76ers close.

Final NBA Parlay Picks for March 29

Nets ML & Mavericks +4 +123 for 0.5 Unit at FanDuel

Trading at +123, this parlay has implied odds of 44.5%. The bet should win at least half the time. The Rockets have long since tapped out of the playoff race and won’t challenge a Nets team in need of a win. The 76ers have little reason to force their superstars back into the lineup with the playoffs so close and seeding almost already determined.
