College Basketball Best Bets: Florida Atlantic-Memphis

The Nos. 8 and 9 seeds will clash as Memphis enters the game as a 1.5-point favorite. Memphis has momentum on their side, having earned the automatic bid and knocking off Houston in their previous game. The team’s leading scorer is superstar guard Kendric Davis, averaging 22 points per game, and he is expected to play every minute of the game. Memphis is projected to ride on his back and secure the win.

Florida Atlantic is 31-3 and a team that should not be taken lightly. The Owls dominated their conference thanks to their sharpshooting ability from beyond the arc (37% from 3). Their team is much more balanced, with no player averaging more than 25 minutes per game, and they have the physicality to compete with Memphis’ chaotic style.

However, the question remains whether they have the ability to contain Davis, who has been the catalyst for Memphis’ recent success. In a tournament setting, the team with the clear best player on the floor is often the one that emerges victorious. In this game, that player is Davis. Thus, Memphis is a dangerous team in this bracket and will emerge victorious.
