It is no surprise that Alabama leads the way in Friday’s Sweet 16 betting. The Crimson Tide rolled through the SEC in the regular season and have continued to steamroll opponents through the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Last weekend, it was senior guard Jahvon Quinerly who led the way with 22 points for Bama in a convincing 73-51 win over Maryland. Freshman NBA prospect Brandon Miller added 19 in the contest.

But Alabama will have their toughest test to date against a San Diego State team that was able to end the dream run of Furman last weekend, winning 75-52.

“They’re an experienced team,” Oats said Monday night on his weekly “Hey Coach” radio show. “I looked on KenPom, and we’re 257th in experience and they’re 21st in the country in experience.

The Miami Hurricanes tout a dangerous team led by dynamic guards Isaiah Wong and Jordan Miller. As a slight underdog against Indiana in the Round of 32, it was Wong who stole the show with a 27-point performance in the win. Clearly, a lot of sports bettors are thinking 7.5 points is too many to give a team as dangerous as the Hurricanes, even when they are up against a real juggernaut in the Houston Cougars.

“I’d say their defense and their rebounding,” Miami head coach Jim Larranaga said when describing the challenge Houston presents, per On3. “Is that two things? Okay. It’s a combination of those two things. First of all, at the defensive end of the floor, they’re as physical as any team that I’ve seen all year long. They put so much pressure on you at every position. Some teams are good putting pressure on the guards, but these guys put pressure at every position.”

Miami will undoubtedly need some heroic performances from their standout guards to overcome the suffocating defense of Houston.

Friday’s basketball should be another intense chapter of this March Madness tournament. Based on the latest Sweet 16 betting report, a lot of fans out there will be pulling for Alabama and Miami.
