Best CFB Bets Today: Nebraska-Minnesota Pairs Nicely With Caesars Bonus (August 31)

Football season is officially here with September upon us, but there is one last day to add a win to the August total. It has been a fantastic month of betting, with a bunch of good reads, some very fortunate breaks and only a few head-scratching bad beats. Yesterday the Mariners did not get the job done in MLB, winning the game but failing to cover the 1.5. They really had no business winning, so let’s look to turn that around and end the month on a high note. Lucky, college football is here, which means a handful of games to break down tonight, including a great Nebraska-Minnesota pick that we can pair with an awesome Caesars bonus code!

Best CFB Bets Today: Nebraska-Minnesota (August 31)

This Nebraska-Minnesota game has a typical Big Ten total of 43 points, with Nebraska a 7-point underdog on the road. Shopping this line across a ton of different books, right now everyone seems to agree 7.0 is the number. Despite Nebraska’s issues in recent years, this is a spot worth taking tonight.

Nebraska gets a makeover with Matt Rhule taking over and Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Sims running the offense. Sims has dual-threat ability, an improved offensive line and a reasonable cast of weapons around him. The issue is he needs to limit is the turnovers, as at times Sims could be careless with the football. On the other side of the ball, Nebraska can only improve after being 120th in run defense last year. Transfers from Georgia and Florida could immediately pay dividends, and it should be a much more balanced defensive unit. The secondary probably is the strength, with a lot of experience returning.

Minnesota wants to control the tempo, run the ball and dominate upfront. The big question is, do they have the ability to do that after some major losses from last year? Three top-end offensive linemen are gone, and that goes from the strength of this team to a big question mark. Athan Kaliakmanis is back at quarterback, and he also has some mobility, but he is behind a line that could have issues. If Minnesota falls behind, it is not overly equipped to air it out, so this is a team that wants to get the lead in the first quarter.

It is early-season college football, which means there are a ton of questions without any answers. The Cornhuskers brought in a ton of new faces, which gives them a reasonable chance to start quickly in 2023. In a situation like this, with so many unknowns on both sides, take the 7 points in what could easily be a coinflip game that stays close from start to finish.
