Memphis rolls into this game at 10-2, averaging around 35 points per game. The offense is solid and loves to air it out, throwing the ball nearly 40 times per game. It’s methodical in its tempo — ranked 92nd in seconds per play — but that’s not a dealbreaker here. The real edge comes on the other side of the ball with West Virginia.
West Virginia, at 6-6, has one glaring issue: It can’t stop the pass. It ranks 130th in passing yards allowed per attempt — dead last in college football. To make matters worse, it’s dealing with a thin and depleted secondary due to injuries and opt-outs, which spells serious trouble.
Defensively, it gets even uglier:

- Outside the top 100 in third- and fourth-down conversions
This defense hasn’t been able to stop anyone all season, and now it’s even more vulnerable.
The good news for the over is West Virginia can still move the ball. Its offense has been the bright spot all year, and it’s relatively intact for this game. The Mountaineers will need to keep pace with Memphis, and they should have some success. This game sets up to be a shootout where both teams can trade scores and take advantage of shaky defenses.
The spread is sitting at 4 to 4.5 points, so we’re expecting a close game. I wouldn’t be surprised if both teams eclipse 30 points tonight. Memphis should break off some explosive plays, and West Virginia will counter.
